Kindergarten Known Resources

At the beginning of our study on polar bears I recorded all that the students could already tell me about polar bears.  Then I asked them where we could find out more about polar bears and how we could find out the answers to our questions.  These are the resources they gave me (in order of the suggestions):

  1. Teacher, Parent or other Adult
  2. Visiting - North or South Pole, Zoo, or Museum
  3. Google
  4. YouTube (KidsTube)
  5. Internet
  6. Ask an Expert
  7. Video
  8. Book
  9. Siri
  10. iPad app

I would venture to say that this list looks a little different than a list you would have made in kindergarten.  I always like to consult the students first to make sure I'm up on the latest technology!

What's Happening in Kindergarten Jan. 22?

100th Day of School

IF we don't use anymore emergency days, the 100th Day of Kindergarten will be Monday, February 5th.  It will be a "Spy" themed day.  Zero the Hero, who visits us every ten days, has been kidnapped!
It is crucial for us to solve this mystery in order to celebrate the 100th Day!  Students will be fingerprinted and listen to the ransom message.  There are several missions that they will need to complete in order to earn clues.  Hopefully it will be a fun day and students will get lots of opportunities to practice with the number 100.

If you have time to drop by our classroom and help with an activity or two, we can always use your help.  Remember it is necessary for you to have completed the Protecting God's Children class first.

Shh! This message is confidential and should not be shared with your student!

A Kindergarten Parent's Guide to Catholic Schools Week

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK is an opportunity for kids to have fun and celebrate Catholic schools.  Following are the events of the week and notes to help explain how these events apply to Kindergarten students.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to text, call, email or stop me in the hall.  I know that you want to be involved.

SATURDAY  Attend 5:30 PM Mass with us at Holy Family Church.  Older students will be leading the Mass by doing the readings and bringing up the gifts.  All Kindergarten students are welcome to sit with me at the front right of the church and participate in the choir.  These will be songs they have learned at Friday Children's Mass.  Afterwards you are invited to join us for the 8th Grade sponsored supper.  They will be accepting free-will donations to help pay for their 8th Grade trip in May.  The Book Fair will also be open for viewing and purchases.

MONDAY Wear red, white, and blue. Students will make Valentines for Veterans at school on this day.  We will have Art with Mrs. Jochem.

TUESDAY Wear comfy clothes.  Tumbling with Mrs. Sara.  Book Fair will be open in the gym from 5:00-6:00 PM.  6:00-7:30 PM Mrs. Jochem will be leading families in creating their own painting on canvas.  No natural artistic abilities needed - Mrs. Jochem is a master leader and I guarantee you will be amazed at your family's creation!

WEDNESDAY Dress as your future career.  This is a fun theme and always a good photo opportunity.  Mary Reich (nurse), Alan Koch (farmer), and Karl Groesch (sheriff) will speak to Kindergarten today and tell them about their jobs in the community and how their faith helps them to do their jobs.

THURSDAY All volunteers are invited to eat lunch with us today at noon. Students will also be dressing like a "Twin".  If your student has not prearranged with someone else to be a twin, I will be wearing a blue shirt and jeans - we can all be twins together!  Also, if your student didn't get a chance to purchase something at the Book Fair, it will be open one last time for students with money.

FRIDAY Wear SMS gear and we will have our regular Friday Mass.  The Deer Classic Committee is treating us to a pizza lunch as a reward for meeting our sales goal.  We will play whole school bingo. Usually older students come to our room to help and numbers are called over the PA system.  When students get a "BINGO" they get to run to the office and for a treat.  We will be making sure everyone gets a treat today!

Thank You! Thank You!

Thanks to a very generous donation, Kindergarten was able to purchase a beautiful new rug and complete our set of Elephant and Piggie books!  We also were able to purchase new wooden student cubbies, several sets of quality non-fiction leveled readers, and 2 wobble chairs, which we are still waiting for delivery. With our new carpet and linoleum from the summer, our classroom is looking very sharp!  Stop by sometime and take a look at how these treasured items are helping to support our learning.

Thank you!  Thank you!
